A selection of activities and publications aimed at a (more) general public is listed below.

Talks, presentations, courses

  • March 2 – April 20, 2019: Philosophy in the movies: a ‘HOVO’ film philosophy course centered around the many faces of identity, held at Filmtheater ‘t Hoogt in Utrecht (7 Saturdays in total).
  • November 18, 23, and 25, 2018: Philosophy seminars at Fukuoka, Tokyo, and Osaka, Japan (flyer).
This seminar, which I held three times, once at Chuo Fukuoka, once at Ibaraki, Osaka, and once at Aoyama University, Tokyo, continued the one I gave in January 2018 (see below). It concerned the various scientific images of the human being that developed in tandem with key advances in science: a mechanistic image, an evolutionary image, an economic image, and a computer image.
  • October 16, 2018 – March 5, 2019: Biweekly philosophy course at Dat Bolwerck, Zutphen, entitled ‘Denken zonder grenzen’ (‘Thinking unlimited’). (link)
In this course, we took a tour through the history of philosophy, looking in particular at thinkers that subscribed, in one form or another, to the thesis that thinking = being.
  • April 21, 2018: Contribution to ‘Dag van de Filosofie’ (‘Philosophy Day’) at Utrecht, entitled ‘Versnippering van ons denken’ (‘The fragmentation of our thinking’). (link to announcement, link to site)
  • March 28, 2018: ‘De grenzen van kunstmatige intelligentie’ (‘The limits of artificial intelligence’), lecture for the NSU students’ association in Utrecht.
  • March 3 – April 21, 2018: Philosophy in the movies: a ‘HOVO’ film philosophy course centered around the many faces of truth, held at Filmtheater ‘t Hoogt in Utrecht (7 Saturdays in total).
  • January 20 and 21, 2018: Philosophy seminars at Osaka and Tokyo, Japan (flyer).
This seminar, which I held twice, once in Ibaraki, Osaka, and once at Aoyama University in Tokyo, was concerned with a fourfold plurality of forms of understanding: for inanimate, living, animal, and human phenomena.
